About Us

I’m Jo, the hands behind everything you see here. Lover of carbs, good conversation, the odd glass of wine and a big fan of Country Music. Often forgetful and (as I’ve been told) pretty sarcastic - not sure if i'd agree.

Memory Within started back in 2019, but not in the way most do.

It began as part of my recovery after a life-changing stroke. My neuro rehab team suggested a project - one that would get me working with my hands again. Something to help reconnect everything that had been affected.

It was a hard, frustrating, painful time, rebuilding and negotiating life with a brain and body that felt like they no longer belonged to me.

Just months later, I lost my beautiful mum.

This shifted everything. What started as a way to rebuild became something much more personal, and I found myself drawn towards creating memorial jewellery. Pieces that hold meaning, not just beauty. A way of helping others to remember their lost loved ones too.

As I grew stronger, I went on to study further and after a challenging 18 month course, I qualified as a jeweller and silversmith in 2022

Since then, this has quietly grown into what it is today. Many of our pieces are designed by us and made within our studio, or cast by a specialist precious metal caster in Birmingham in silver and gold. Our jewellery is now held in Funeral Directors and crematoria throughout the U.K. and of course, here, through our website.

When I’m not in the studio, I love spending time with my husband and children, or outside with my horses and dogs. Travelling and exploring Scotland, attending music festivals or undertaking slightly dubious challenges such as abseiling down the Forth Rd Bridge or zip lining over the Clyde, fundraising for Stroke and baby charities.

I also enjoy tutoring young adults - teaching the basics of silversmithing, holding small group ring and pendant making workshops in partnership with another local jeweller.

If you’re here, whether you’re just looking or considering something special, or just fancy a chat - you’re very welcome.
